Police uncover 73 grams of cannabis during traffic stop
Police curbed a Hyundai Sonata about 5:08 p.m. on the 1600 block of Harlem on Oct. 14, after spotting a man driving with a cracked windshield and pressing a phone to his face.
Kalahn D. Morris, 29, of Berwyn, told officers he was talking on the phone, but police smelled a strong odor of cannabis in the car. Morris told police he had smoked in the vehicle earlier, but there was no cannabis in the vehicle now.
Officers searched the car and found 22 small plastic bags containing 73 total grams of cannabis.
“From my training and experience, the presence of 22 separate bags of cannabis, along with the way in which the cannabis was packaged, is not consistent with personal usage and is consistent with the intent to deliver,” the report reads
Morris received a felony charge for delivery and manufacture of cannabis over 30 grams and unlawful use of an electronic communication device.
Battery at the Blue Line
Officers arrived to the Forest Park Blue Line station, 711 Desplaines Ave., about 7 a.m. on Oct. 8 and found an irate Chicago woman accusing a CTA security agent of stealing $265 and demanding officers search the woman.
The security agent told police the woman arrived at the end of the Blue Line but did not exit. The official asked if the woman wished to ride again, and the woman became very agitated and aggressive. She eventually exited the car, walked down a car and re-entered the train.
The security agent confronted the woman, who struck her in the face twice and pulled her hair. The official was able to handcuff the woman and escort her to the mezzanine to wait for police.
The woman was charged with battery.
Thief attempts to steal, “hot wire” U-Haul
A man tried to illegally start a U-Haul truck parked at U-Haul Moving & Storage at 801 S. Harlem Ave. about 9:20 p.m. on Oct. 11, according to surveillance footage obtained by the police.
The footage shows a man entering and trying to “hot wire” a truck, failing to do so, then leaving the area. Police found plastic molding underneath the steering wheel cut, and the ignition was drilled out.
Officers recover stolen car at McDonald’s
Police ran a random registration check of a Dodge Durango parked at McDonald’s, 7135 Roosevelt Road, about 2:31 a.m. on Oct. 12, which revealed the car was stolen.
Officers approached the vehicle, and the driver immediately told police his uncle had rented the car. The Chicago man said he was supposed to return the vehicle either yesterday or the day before, but he was having fun and didn’t have enough money to return it with a full tank of gas.
He said the woman he was riding with had nothing to do with the stolen Dodge Durango.
The man was charged with criminal trespass to vehicle.
Routine stop uncovers cannabis
While on patrol, officers spotted two men standing outside J&M Furniture & Mattress, 7227 Roosevelt Road, about 6:36 p.m. on Oct. 10. Police smelled a strong odor of cannabis coming from the area and watched one of the men hold an object up to his face, light it with a lighter and then begin smoking it. When police approached the two, the man who was smoking threw the object onto the sidewalk and extinguished the flame.
The men told police they work for the REM temporary employment agency at 7239 Roosevelt, and “officers have responded numerous times to the area due to citizen complaints for nuisance activity,” according to the report.
Police asked if the men had any cannabis, and the men handed officers a pill bottle containing two cigars containing suspected marijuana and a knotted plastic bag containing suspected cannabis.
The men received a local ordinance violation of possession of cannabis, 10 grams or less.
Thief pulls jacket from car
At some point between 12 and 7 a.m. on Oct. 12, someone broke into a Chevrolet Equinox parked on the 400 block of Circle and took a rain jacket worth $85. The victim told police her doors were unlocked.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Oct. 8-15, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
