Outdoor Yoga at The Grove

Forest Park Public Library invites yoga enthusiasts of all abilities to participate in a special session of Outdoor Yoga at The Grove, 7824 Madison St. in Forest Park on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 to 11 a.m. Meet at The Grove for this class, which is great for beginners. Wear clothes you can move in and bring your own yoga mat or towel. Please register at bit.ly/2kJKJry so you can be contacted in case of cancellation. All participants must be 18 or over and sign a waiver. The class will be taught by Marissa Grott of Marissa Jayne Yoga.

 

Madison Street Sidewalk Sale

The Forest Park Chamber of Commerce invites shoppers to Madison Street on Sept. 20-22 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. for a Sidewalk Sale. Bring your friends and browse the merchandise from unique boutiques and specialty shops all along Madison Street. Grab a bite to eat at one of the local eateries while you're in the neighborhood.

 

Free mammograms in October at Rush

Rush Oak Park Hospital is offering free mammograms to women in Oak Park, River Forest and Proviso Township during the month of October. Breast cancer is the second most frequently diagnosed cancer in women, and mammography is the most effective screening tool. Experts at Rush recommend that most woman have mammograms beginning at age 40. Proof of residence will be requested at the time of your visit and mammograms must be performed by Oct. 31. Forest Park's 'State of the Art'

The Forest Park Arts Alliance will hold a "State of the Art" forum, seeking community input for next year's strategic planning. Members of the public interested in arts presentations in Forest Park are invited to attend. The event will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Jimmy's, 7411 Madison St., from 7 to 9 p.m.

 

Criminal justice reform forum

The League of Women Voters of Oak Park-River Forest invites residents of the area to attend a comprehensive update ion criminal justice reform in Cook County. The free forum will be held in the Veterans Room of the Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake St. on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. Panelists include Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson, Michelle Mbekeani from the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, Sharlyn Grace from the Chicago Bond Fund and Ben Ruddell, the director of criminal justice policy of the ACLU. 

 

Mystery writers meet at Centuries & Sleuths

The Mystery Writers of America will convene at Centuries and Sleuths Bookstore, 7419 Madison St., on Sunday, Sept. 22 at noon for a presentation by guest speaker Joanna MacKenzie from the Nelson Literary Agency.

 

Library programs continue offsite

Despite much of the Forest Park Public Library being closed while renovations are completed, programming continues offsite. For kids, there's Babybugs Lapsit Storytime at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday; Toddler Storytime at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays; Hello Amigos! Storytime on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.; Merry Math Makers Storytime on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.; and Exploration Station Storytime on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. All storytime programs will be at the Howard Mohr Community Center, 7640 Jackson Blvd. Other programs include Classic Film Fridays on Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Howard Mohr Community Center, 7640 Jackson Blvd.; Plalking Meetup (picking up litter while walking) on Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. (meet in front of the Forest Park Library at 7555 Jackson Blvd.) and Art Lovers Tween Meetup on Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. at Creativita, 7512 Madison St.
