Vehicle left running, stolen from lot
A Chicago woman called police on Feb. 10 at 6:50 p.m. to report that her vehicle had been stolen from the rear parking lot of a Desplaines Avenue business.
The victim told police she parked behind Garmint Cleaners, 208 Desplaines Ave., and left her 2016 Nissan Pathfinder running as she loaded gifts from a baby shower into her vehicle.
While she was away from the vehicle, someone got into it and drove off northbound on Desplaines Avenue. The victim said she did not see the offender and told police that she had the key fob and that the vehicle would not start again once it’s turned off.
Inside the vehicle were several baby shower gifts, an iPhone and $1,200 in cash.
Copper downspout taken
Police responded to St. John Lutheran Church, 305 Circle Ave., on the morning of Feb. 5 after a church employee called to report that a copper downspout was missing.
The last time the downspout was seen intact was on Feb. 1, according to the police report. The approximately 20-foot section of copper downspout was noticed missing on Feb. 4.
Vigilante justice
Forest Park police charged two women and one man with battery after they assaulted a 24-year-old Forest Park woman in the parking lot of her apartment building in the 300 block of Desplaines Avenue on Feb. 10 about 12:40 p.m.
According to the police report, the alleged attack took place in front of a police officer who was called to the scene by the victim, who was locked in her car to keep out five people who were threatening her.
When the police officer arrived, the victim reported exited her vehicle. At that time, the two female offenders, a 25-year-old Chicago woman and a 24-year-old Maywood woman, started punching and kicking her.
The police officer got out of his vehicle and separated the parties, but the male offender, a 27-year-old Chicago man, allegedly kicked the downed victim in the face.
Police arrested the three offenders and learned that the incident was related to a stolen or missing iPhone that had been tracked to the Forest Park location. The previous day, according to the report, someone had battered a member of the offenders’ family in Cicero.
Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital for treatment.
Rental car goes AWOL
Police were called to Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 7600 Roosevelt Road, on Feb. 6 after an employee called to report that a 25-year-old Burbank man had rented a silver 2017 Nissan Altima on Jan. 18 and was supposed to return it the next day.
However, the car was never returned and numerous attempts to contact the person who rented it have been unsuccessful. The company moved to declare the vehicle stolen after getting no response from a Jan. 30 certified letter demanding the vehicle’s return.
Package stolen
Police responded to the 7700 block of Harvard Street last week after a resident called to report that someone had stolen a package from his home.
The victim said he received an alert from the U.S. Postal Service on Feb. 7 that the package, containing a shirt valued at $70, had been delivered. When he arrived home from work, the package was missing. The following day, the victim confirmed that the package had been delivered at 2:53 on Feb. 7.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Feb. 4-10, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
