For more than 30 years the arrival of August has brought The Taste of Elmwood Park to the food-centric village. The large and lively festival, however, had to be heavily modified in response to statewide COVID-19 event restrictions.

"We still plan to showcase Elmwood Park's phenomenal restaurant scene," said Village President Angelo "Skip" Saviano. "While we will have to wait till 2021 for a traditional Taste, we're going to work within the Governor's rules to highlight our restaurants and provide our residents with the opportunity to celebrate the great culinary options here."

Village officials are persevering and are focused on making the most of summer events despite obvious challenges. To replace The Taste of Elmwood Park, leaders have introduced Taste and Tunes to bring attention to local restaurants by offering entertainment from 6-8pm in the public dining area on Restaurant Row located at North Avenue and 74th Court.

Varied acts include pop, rock, country music as well as timeless standards. Menu options are just as plentiful in Elmwood Park.

Armand's Pizza, at 7650 W. North Ave., is offering pizza slices, artichoke casserole, fiesta corn and cannoli bowls for just $4.00 each, while Spizzico Pizza and Pasta, at 7446 W. North Ave., is offering stuffed cheese or sausage pizza slices for just $5.00.

If you have a taste for beef between a bun, Burger Moovment, at 7512 W. North Ave., is offering an American diner burger special for $5.50 (limit 3 per order/no substitutions) from August 6-9. Burger Moovement's diner burger is a made with a single patty, American cheese, grilled onions, and pickles on a simple white bun. The meal is completed with fries, and a small fountain drink.

New Star, at 7444 W. North Ave., is offer a 15 percent discount on all dine-in dinner menu items during Taste and Tunes. This offer cannot be combined with coupons but guarantees you will be able to get your hands on a vast array of dishes like one of New Star's signature egg rolls. The perfectly fried eggrolls, come two to a portion and feature a bounty of BBQ pork, shrimp, vegetables in a pleasing peanut sauce.

"They are the best around because we use best quality meat, vegetables and peanut butter," said owner Jinny Zhao.

Eggsperience, at 16 Conti Parkway, is offering "grab-and-go" breakfast sandwiches and a cup of coffee for just $7.99 in the morning but has created additional lunch specials for the festive week in the village. The breakfast café is offering their Eggsperience egg-topped burger or a chicken and avocado sandwich and a drink for just $9.99.

Residents should check the Village of Elmwood Park's website and Facebook page for updates on additional specials. Despite the modifications to the festival, dining at a discount tastes delicious--see you for Taste and Tunes in Elmwood Park August 6-9!
